Resources for the General Public on Self Governance in Alabama
- The vote can be called upon in two ways. First, the county commission can pass a resolution calling for the vote. Second, members of the public can sign a petition calling for the vote.
- The petition must be signed by 10 percent of the voters in the unincorporated areas of the county.
- The election may only be held in conjunction with a primary, general or special election held for another purpose in the county.
- The Act may be repealed by either a vote of the county commission or by a petition signed by 10 percent of the total number of voters in the unincorporated areas of the county.
